The goal of this
project is to develop
calibrated imagesets
to aid in the investigation
of psychological
factors affecting
public
perceptions and
evaluations of forest and
woodland
ecosystem management.
Images
will be computer-manipulated to represent
desired sets of relationships
between forest and
woodland features and conditions relevant to
ecosystem management and that are believed to
affect the aesthetic preferences of visitors and
recreators. In addition, the interrelationships between
public perceptions, knowledge, feelings and values
relevant to forest and woodland ecosystems will be
investigated, and the separate and combined effects of
these psychological factors on environmental
aesthetic preferences and on the acceptability of
ecosystems management in the National Forests will
be assessed.
